MAD FIGS Digest #13-3: 5/24/09

Thanks to recent advances in computer technology, a monumental event has taken place for the first time in recent memory. That's right - the complete 2009 Septathalon results have been posted before the next year's competition! Even better, now that a new process has been implemented, future entries will be much easier. This includes past results as well, so look for the 2007 and 2008 scores soon!

The 2009 results include all the event scores, the popular "special division" results, and a complete photo gallery. Unfortunately, while there are tons of Ultimate pictures, only a few photos from the other events are up. One brave volunteer has already offered to send in some new photos, but I know that certain other people also had their cameras there and may even have video footage. Please let me know if you do have anything to share - for your convenience, I can even set you up with an FTP connection to the website so you can upload images directly from your home, office, or travelling fruit stand!

The main reason why things have been moving so quickly is due to a change in hosting for the MAD FIGS website. While the madfigs.org address will still work, the site will soon be officially located at madfigs.com! This will allow many exciting features to be implemented, the first of which being the new Septathalon Comparison Tools. You can now see the overall scores for everyone who's ever taken part in one of the competitions, as well as many other detailed statistics. The new location is:

Another shocking new change that could be implemented in the future would the introduction of site navigation. You can see a sample of one idea at http://www.madfigs.com/header-test2.php - but it definitely needs some work. I'm still not sure if I will go ahead with the change... on one hand it probably is difficult for people who are new to the site to find things, but on the other hand I'm not sure if anyone besides us has ever actually visited the site. The old design (or lack thereof I guess) is also a classic tradition, so I feel bad about "modernizing" it (although it's still only going from 1996 to about 2000). If you have an opinion one way or the other, please let me know.

Anyway, hopefully there will be more changes to come. Keep an eye on the madfigs.com for the latest developments!
